Everyone has a story to tell, an apology to be made, a hissy fit to be had!
Let it all out! Come join our team. You don’t have to be a professional writer, you just need to be willing to let go – write your letter, let us put it in a metaphorical balloon for you and watch as it floats up into the ether.
You can write about whatever you feel appropriate with only one rule: there are to be NO NAMES. Whether you are writing to yourself, to a loved one or even to God: every letter remains anonymous. If you need to put in that person’s relation to you, that’s fine, but you cannot use their name. The only time names will be used is in the acknowledgements section of the website and they will be put into alphabetical order so that no one knows who wrote what letter.
The submission process is easy.
E-mail your letter to the address below as an attachment (NOT in the body of your text please) with your full name and a potential title for the piece (e.g. a letter to my suicidal self, a letter to my bald head, a letter to my future self) – no other information is required. Editors will go through your e-mail to check for grammatical, punctuation and spelling errors and to double check that you haven’t accidentally forgotten about the anonymous rule and when that’s done you’ll receive an e-mail letting you know when your letter has been scheduled to go live.
Please don’t publicise which letter is yours but do encourage as many people as you know to participate whether it’s by spreading the word, reading the letters or even sending me a letter of their own. If this project goes over the allotted year, we will be looking into getting it published as a book.
If you’re interested in joining the project, my e-mail address is email@example.com. I’m available to answer questions so please feel free to contact me and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
